Getting Creative With Our Future Leaders At Coton-In-The-Elms Primary School

Barrow Hepburn & Gale is delighted to support the young democrats of Coton-in-the-Elms Primary School with a unique creative artwork project.

Barrow Hepburn & Gale hold an important role in our country’s cultural heritage. Bringing that history & narrative to audiences of all ages is one of our favourite ways to engage with our community.

We particularly love connecting with the younger members of our society: they are, after-all, our bright- eyed future. Now, when so much of the world around us is restricted, we believe it is more important than ever to give them an opportunity to really be seen and heard.

That is why we were thrilled when the Headteacher of Coton-in-the-Elms Primary School - Mr Smith - got in touch with us to find out whether we would be interested in supporting their mini democrats with a very special Barrow Hepburn & Gale competition.

Our response? Of course!

Coton-in-the-Elms Primary School approached us about borrowing one of our official Despatch Boxes. We jumped at the chance.

The school is near the town of Swadlincote in Derbyshire. The school’s ethos is to give the children many real life experiences, which they can incorporate into their studies. This is perfectly epitomised by their fantastic school parliament.

As part of the schools’ student engagement, they wanted to run a creative contest that would get students thinking about history & politics in a fresh, engaging way.

The competition asked pupils to craft their own piece of artwork featuring a Despatch Box.

Full marks to Mrs. Cresswell, the school’s Business Officer, for making the first approach.

‘This is a long shot’, she wrote. Sometimes, long shots pay off. We were impressed and decided to create a competition for every child at the school.

The more inventive, the better. The children could use any form of art - painting, drawing, collage, pastel or a combination - to create an image that told the story of an official government Despatch Box, in their own unique way.

Barrow Hepburn & Gale will have the very difficult task of choosing a winner and a worthy runner up. Each would win a book token. Both pictures will be featured on our website and the creators will each receive a Barrow Hepburn & Gale certificate.

The prizes will be personally presented at the school by Barrow Hepburn & Gale

We cannot wait to share with you the iconic winning artwork - watch this space, we think there could be a new artist in town!

If you are interested in hosting a campaign or competition for your own school, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you!
