Gladstone’s Budget

Laura Gallant & Emily Ashton from BuzzFeed very kindly sent photographs of Gladstone, the Treasury Cat.

Cats are notoriously difficult to photograph & Gladstone was no exception.

Emily says,

‘He was a very curious cat as it was one of his first days at The Treasury since being adopted from Battersea Cats & Dogs Home, so getting him to sit still was quite difficult. We tried a handful of times to get him to sit.’

On 15 September 2018, The Guardian reported that Gladstone had gone missing. Perhaps, Gladstone felt that he need a rest after helping the Chancellor with the Budget. &, as Laura described him as a ’curious cat’, not unlike Rum Tum Tugger in Old Possum’s Book of Cats, by T.S. Eliot, Gladstone did,

‘For he will do

As he do do

And theres no doing anything about it! ‘
